Expanding The Master Bath in Your Maryland or DC Home
If your home is your sanctuary, your master bathroom is ground zero for enlightenment. It’s a place for you to get away, relax, release the tensions of the day that’s behind you, and prepare for the one ahead. If you’re looking for a little luxury, expanding your master bath might be just what the doctor ordered!
What Does Your Dream Master Bath Look Like?
Maybe you imagine twin vanities, heated floors, a soaker tub, or a high-tech shower to steam the stress away. Perhaps the new version is a little bigger than the one you currently have.
With a little planning, it’s all possible.
The Master Bath is Self-Care HQ
Over the past decades, a luxurious, spacious master bath has become a major home selling point and not just a space for quickly performing your daily ablutions and moving on.
Now, we spend a significant chunk of time in the bathroom, often performing self-care rituals to melt away our stress. Whether that’s taking a long, hot shower, giving yourself a facial, relaxing in the tub with a glass of wine, or maintaining your hair, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing in style.
If you want to create that perfect oasis, don’t go it alone. The professional design-build team at Winthorpe won’t make you choose between beauty and functionality. Whatever you have in mind, big or small, we can make it happen!
Plan for Success
Our process always begins with a planning session. Before we get together, think about your priorities: what features do you want your new bathroom to have? What is most important to you? What kind of design do you have in mind? And finally, what’s in the budget?
There is always a happy medium between luxury and efficiency. It’s all about finding the solutions that work for you. Once you have an idea about what you want in your master bath, we will go over every detail to be sure we can make it happen.
Borrowing Space
If you don’t intend to change your master bath’s footprint, the remodel should be fairly simple. However, if you want to open it up and change where the fixtures go, it will be a little more complicated.
Often, when we need to enlarge, it’s possible to expand into adjacent areas. For example, you might decide to give up some closet space in the spare bedroom or hallway to give you that extra square footage. Depending on what is already around the master bath, it could be easy to incorporate unused space into the plans.
For example, if your bathroom is at the end of a hallway that doesn’t have a room on the other side, we can absorb the unused space. It’s a simple solution for getting the result you want.
Adding On
If there are no small adjoining areas near your master bath, you might also consider an addition. This may be a small bump-out—a projection in the outer wall that extends the space by a few feet—or a full room addition. Either way, it is your chance to start from scratch and get a space that is perfectly customized for you.
If you are modifying your home’s outer structure to accommodate your new master bathroom, keep in mind that you’ll have to design both the interior and exterior to flow with what’s already there. If your addition changes your home’s footprint, you might also need to investigate zoning restrictions and get them dealt with before you start.
Making Room
If adapting your current master bath just isn’t possible, there are other ways to get the bathroom of your dreams. While these alternatives come with a higher price tag, many homeowners find them worth the time and effort. Whether or not your new bathroom is attached to the master suite, a little luxury goes a long way. Plus, when it’s time to sell, you will see the value reflected in the price.
A seldom-used spare bedroom or basement area may be the perfect spot for your new bathroom. Of course, this means installing the necessary infrastructure, like plumbing and ventilation, but the final result is sure to be spectacular – not to mention private and relaxing.
